Conclusions
-
1.
The process of obtaining mono-, di-, and triisopropyltoluenes by alkylating toluene with propylene in the presence of synthetic aluminosilicates has been investigated.
-
2.
A study has been made of the effects of temperature, pressure, feedstock space velocity, and toluene: propylene ratio on the yield and isomer composition of the isopropyltoluenes. It has been established that, with a temperature of 170°C, gage pressure of 5 kg/cm2, feedstock space velocity of 0.5 h−1, and equimolar ratio of toluene: propylene, the principal products are o- and p-isopropyltoluene.
-
3.
The feasilibity of separation a mixture of o- and p-isopropyltoluenes from m-isopropyltoluene by close fractionation has been demonstrated.
