A New Sesquiterpene Glycoside from Leaves of Bombax ceiba

  • Published:
Chemistry of Natural Compounds Aims and scope

A new sesquiterpene glycoside, ceibanoside (1), was isolated from the leaves of Bombax ceiba, together with the previously-reported quercetin (2), kaempferol (3), naringenin (4), (+)-epicatechin (5), and procyanidin B2 (6). The structure of the new sesquiterpene glycoside was elucidated using chemical and physical evidence. Compound 2 showed antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, producing an inhibition zone with a diameter of 16.0 mm.
