Abstract
World population has been increasing geometrically, accelerating the speed of it being doubled, which is called “population explosion”. It has become clear that the human population has an important effect on the natural environment. On the other hand, the spatial distribution of population is much affected by environmental conditions. In this chapter, we examine the dynamics of human population as well as population distribution and structure, with a special focus on spatial variations and implications. The major topics are as follows: population distribution and its change, components of natural change (fertility and mortality), human migration, population structure, and the relationship between population and the natural environment.
