Abstract
Crowdsourcing is a community-based approach to solve any problem faced by societies, business enterprises, non-profit organizations and the governments by means of collective wisdom and an indomitable desire to find solutions out of their own volition. The concept of crowdsourcing is about three hundred years old. However, progress in artificial intelligence has made the practice of crowdsourcing all the more popular in recent times. The concept based on open innovation has touched all aspects of human life and all the areas of management functions. Likewise, crowdsourcing has revolutionized new product development as evident from various success stories. A comprehensive review of 32 researches on the theme from diverse perspectives has been conducted to explore the instrumentality as well as the efficacy of crowdsourcing as a tool for new product development in the emerging scenario while leveraging the power of artificial intelligence.
