Abstract

Wide cleft palate is defined as when bony palatal shelf is less than one third the width of cleft defect. Wide Cleft Palates are usually Bilateral incomplete cleft palates. The most difficult point in the repair of wide cleft palate is extended dissection of the nasal layer from under the palatal bones on both sides. The next important and essential step is radical dissection of the greater palatine vessels on both sides. Levator dissection & retro-positioning at just anterior to the uvula is the most important step to improve the speech. Bardach two flaps palatoplasty is the preferred procedure. With experience, expert surgeons can do Langenbeck procedure to repair wide cleft palate.
