Abstract

Global environmental change (GEC) is a major issue concerned by scientists and society all over the world, and it is having an important impact on fisheries. GEC mainly includes eutrophication of global waters, global warming, destruction of ozone layer, ocean acidification, etc. This chapter summarizes its current situation of GEC and its impact on fisheries and aquaculture. At the same time, the vulnerability of regions, countries, and species of fisheries to climate change were analyzed. Studies have shown that develo** countries in Africa, Asia, Oceania, and South America have the highest levels of vulnerability and that the factors contributing to high levels of vulnerability vary significantly from country to country. More than two-thirds of the countries with high food security vulnerabilities resulting from the impacts of climate change on marine fisheries use marine fisheries as the main source of their seafood supply. The development of appropriate adaptation strategies and management measures to reduce the impact of GEC is of paramount importance for maintaining food security in all countries.
