Abstract
Direct visualization of the gastrointestinal tract by traditional endoscopy was introduced and developed over the last 50 years or so. Fairly fast gastroenterologists moved from rigid esophago-gastroscopes to flexible scopes and to high-definition videoscopes, daily used for the upper and lower GI endoscopies as well as for the biliary tract.
