Abstract

Retrograde membrane traffic is where proteins and glycolipids are transported back from the plasma membrane (PM) and endosomes to the Golgi and is essential for a wide range of cellular functions. In recent years, studies have begun to show that recycling endosomes (REs), a specific class of endosomes, serve as intermediates for retrograde membrane traffic. In this review, the nature of retrograde membrane traffic that passes through REs and the molecules that regulate the traffic are summarized.
