Zusammenfassung
Die Arbeiten von Robert K. Merton (1910–2003) prägen verschiedene Teilbereiche der Soziologie. Seine Ideen sind innerhalb der Disziplin weitgehend kanonisiert, was die deutschsprachigen Darstellungen u.a. von Coser und Fleck (2007) sowie Mackert und Steinbicker (2013) gut dokumentieren. Im Band von Neckel et al. (2010), der 21 „bahnbrechende Erkenntnisse“ der Soziologie bespricht, ist Merton mit vier Arbeiten sogar häufiger vertreten als jeder andere Autor.
