Abstract

Arteriovenous fistula (AVF) created with native vessels is the vascular access of choice for hemodialysis: the AVF is associated with a lower incidence of complications and longer survival than prosthetic grafts or central venous catheters [1, 2]. Nephrologists and vascular surgeons find it increasingly difficult to locate native vessels suitable for creation of a well-functioning, persistently patent AVF because of increasing prevalence among requiring dialysis patients of advanced age and comorbidities, such as diabetes mellitus and vascular disease [3].
