Abstract

Both HiCIAO and IRD are near-infrared infrared instruments developed mainly for the studies of exoplanets on the Subaru 8.2 m Telescope. HiCIAO is an infrared coronagraphic camera with direct broadband imaging, polarization differential imaging, and narrowband differential imaging capabilities. It has been used for the SEEDS project, a 5-year direct imaging survey of exoplanets and disks. IRD is a high-precision infrared high-dispersion fiber-fed spectrometer combined with a wide-wavelength coverage laser frequency comb. Various infrared technologies are used including a laser frequency comb, a new wide-pitch echelle grating, stable ceramic optical bench, and reflective optics. Its main goal is to detect habitable Earth-like planets around late M stars. These stars are too faint at optical, but the combination of infrared radial velocity and the large telescope aperture will enable such challenging observations.
