Abstract

Airway complications (AC) are associated with a significant morbidity and mortality in lung transplantation recipients. Early incidences of complications were exceedingly high but improvements in many facets led complication rates to drop significantly. Bronchoscopic identification and treatment of AC is critical to a successful lung transplant program. This review will include a brief description of the history of AC, transplant-specific anatomy, surgical techniques of lung transplantation, classification of AC, etiologies, management, and potential future directions for prevention and treatment.
