Abstract
Helsinki Vascular Composite Allotransplantation (VCA) program was started in 2011. In this chapter, we describe how the Helsinki VCA program was built up and the details in our VCA protocol. After 5 years of preparation, the first face transplantation was performed in 2016 and the second in 2018. Both the patients have recovered well and have not had any rejections so far. The results concerning anatomical, functional, psychological, social, and esthetic aspects are presented. Also, the surgical and immunosuppression-related complications are discussed. The Helsinki VCA program is active, and we have enlisted two patients for upper extremity transplantation.
