Abstract
This chapter provides a historical overview of the key events that have led to an increased focus on father engagement in human services. It also provides an in-depth examination of the concept of father engagement in human service systems and offers models, frameworks, and practice guides that can be applied to encourage more father-inclusive practices, which can lead to more positive outcomes for fathers, children, and families. A comprehensive overview of program, provider and personal barriers to father engagement, along with the best practices and recommendations on program, organization, and systems levels for mitigating them are also given.
