Abstract

Map** of quantitative trait loci (QTL) brought a revolutionary breakthrough in the world of crop production. Salinity, drought, water logging and toxicity are those abiotic stresses that affect the crop yield and production. Tolerance for stress is a difficult operation that the plant needs to undergo in order to survive. QTL identification and map** has made it easy for the plant breeders to better understand the abiotic stress-tolerance mechanisms, leading to increase the crop productivity and yield. In this chapter, we have discussed the stresses, their impact on crops and portrayed distinctive abiotic stress tolerant related QTLs that have been pointed out in important cereal crops like rice, wheat and maize. We have summarized certain approaches which would be more helpful for map** the genomic regions that were responsible for stress tolerance. The develo** view of this chapter will highlight the importance of QTL map** to produce abiotic stress-resistance crops in future.
