Abstract
Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging has become essential in the evaluation of pediatric gastrointestinal (GI) tract pathologies. The overarching goal of this chapter is to provide an overview of the clinically important MR imaging findings of the congenital and acquired pediatric GI tract disorders. This chapter outlines up-to-date MR imaging protocols for the evaluation of the fetal bowel, Crohn disease, perianal fistulas, and appendicitis. The embryology and normal development of the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, and large bowel are also reviewed. Furthermore, this chapter discusses a variety of GI tract pathologies that are evaluated by MR imaging, including congenital, infectious/inflammatory, and neoplastic disorders.
