Intracranial Dural Arteriovenous Fistulae

Abstract

Cranial dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs) are vascular lesions in which an abnormal, direct arteriovenous connection forms typically between a meningeal artery and a dural venous sinus or cortical vein. Patients may be clinically asymptomatic or may experience symptoms ranging from mild symptoms to fatal hemorrhage, depending on the fistula location. Evaluation of the prognosis of a lesion and its therapeutic strategies requires a detailed understanding of the angioarchitecture including its feeding arteries and draining veins. This chapter will focus on the diagnosis and treatment of these lesions with a focus on endovascular approaches.
