Observer-report method is a method that allows an observer to assess an individual. Two types of observers are involved in general: one is a professional personality assessment expert who does not know the subject beforehand, and the other is a person who has a close relationship with the subject, such as a close friend, spouse, parent, etc. The information gathered through this method is termed observer report data. Both the observers offer distinct advantages and drawbacks of the subject. While the observer with close relationships can provide data in a natural context and unveil various social personalities of the subject, there is a risk of bias influenced by the observer’s personal relationship, potentially compromising accuracy.
