Abstract

The main aim of cleft palate repair is to create a barrier between oral and nasal cavities and to have a good speech production. Palatal tissues should be dissected/released properly so that both the mucoperiosteal flaps can be sutured in the midline without any tension and the palate heals nicely without any fistula. Radical dissection of the greater palatine vessels facilitates medial movement of the mucoperiosteal flaps. This technique is very useful even in wide cleft palate as well as in palate re-repair cases. Even adult patients can be operated comfortably using radical dissection of the pedicle.
