Abstract

Asymmetric soft palate is a condition in which there is gross discrepancy in the length of the soft palate on both sides. It is one of the rarest deformities of the cleft palate. Management is by lengthening of the short segment and then dissection and retropositioning of the levators. Oral layer is then closed starting from uvula and then proceeding anteriorly.

Summary

In case of discrepancy of the segments of the soft palate, we need to bring both segments at par with each other. Key to success is levator dissection on both sides and bringing the levator (from short side) down and posteriorly to be sutured to the contralateral levator and to the nasal mucosa very near to the uvula.
