Definition

The term “idiopathic interstitial lung diseases” is applied to a group of disorders with distinct histological and radiological appearances and without a known cause. These disorders essentially include sarcoidosis, lymphangioleiomyomatosis, pulmonary alveolar proteinosis, eosinophilic pneumonia, and idiopathic interstitial pneumonias (IIPs).
