Definition
Performance management in local government refers a systematic approach to improving results through evidence-based decision-making, continuous organizational learning, and a focus on accountability for performance for local government.
Introduction
Developments in local government have witnessed a growth globally in performance management. Performance management has a long history in public administration and management, and it has been an important component of many reforms for transparent, efficient, and accountable government global wide since the late 1970s.
