The electrochemistry of cells with solid electrolytes is in many aspects similar to the electrochemistry with aqueous solutions or ionic liquids , but we have to take into account special conditions. Solid electrolyte cells can be built up with all ionic conductors provided that the transference number for ionic species is nearly one. Very common and widely used in industry and scientific labs are cells with electrolytes having an ionic conductivity based on mobile oxygen ions (more precisely oxide ions).
