Abstract
The notion of human rights has become universally well-known in 1948, when the United Nations (created in October 1945) solemnly proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human rights, eventually adopted by its General Assembly, in its meeting in Paris on 10 December 1948.
President of the René Cassin Foundation and former President of the European Court of Human Rights. This paper was lectured as Visiting Professor of Ritsumeikan University, Law Faculty on 23rd March 2017 in Kyoto.
