Abstract

Power system stabilizer (PSS) is widely used to damp power angle oscillation in power systems, and power system voltage regulator (PSVR) can improve the voltage characteristics. Both devices can be installed in synchronous generators as additional controllers, while it is suggested that PSS and PSVR should be installed simultaneously on the generator to improve the angle and voltage oscillation modes of the system. In this paper, an approach for setting PSS and PSVR parameters in generators is proposed. The time constants and gain coefficients of PSS and PSVR are set based on the results of analyzing phase-frequency characteristics and root locus. The interaction between PSS and PSVR is considered in the proposed method. It is verified in the eight-machine system that after setting PSS and PSVR parameters using this method, both the power angle and voltage oscillation modes of the system achieve high dam** levels.
