Abstract

“There have been thousands of purposes so far, because there have been thousands of people. What is lacking, however, is bridles for thousands of heads — one purpose is lacking. Do tell me, my brethren — in the absence of one purpose for Mankind — should we not say that there is no Mankind as yet. . . .” These are the words of Zarathustra, as Nietzche tells us. No one before him has put it so succinctly, no one has proposed to seek the unity of mankind and of culture through a common purpose or aim.
