Abstract
The volume of activation, as derived from the pressure dependence of the observed rate constant of a chemical reaction, is discussed in general terms, rather than a systematic treatment of various classes of reactions, which are in fact reported elsewhere (1–7). Emphasis is given to the formal evaluation of the volume of activation as well as to the numerical procedures. An attempt is also made to interpret the volume of activation in terms of a molecular concept.
