Abstract

It has frequently been suggested (e.g. 1) that sperm age may be important in sperm transport and fertilization. (3H) arginine incorporation into late spermatids of rabbits and mice is specific to spermatid stages 11–15 (2, 3, 4). Therefore, following a single intratesticular injection of (3H) arginine, any labelled spermatozoa in subsequent ejaculates would have been between spermatid stages 11–15 when the tracer was present; hence the spermatozoa would be age-labelled.
