Abstract
We discuss the relevance of optical observations for a better understanding of the nature of cosmic jets and of the phenomena related to them. We insist in particular on the morphology of the optical jets known as yet, especially that of M87, from high-resolution observations. We also discuss the new insights that the detection of interstellar dust can bring on the jet phenomenon as related to the star and dust system of the parent galaxy.
