Mass Outflows from Stars and Galactic Nuclei

Part of the book series: Astrophysics and Space Science Library ((ASSL,volume 142))

Abstract

This review contains a brief description of the observational aspects of the main processes of mass outflow from the Sun and of their interpretation; it includes an indication of the problems still open in this area. In the last part the paper focuses on the diagnostic possibilities that arise from the observation of the corona with coronographs/spectrometers operating in the ultraviolet. It discusses the possibility of determining density, electron and ion temperatures, outflow speed.
