Samenvatting
De vraag naar patiëntenzorg in een ziekenhuis is erg variabel en is vaak moeilijk te voorspellen. Variabiliteit en daarop inspelen is een uitdaging in ziekenhuizen en staat veelal op gespannen voet met efficiënte zorgverlening. Daarom is het noodzakelijk om variabiliteit zo vroeg mogelijk te identificeren en vervolgens deze zo mogelijk te elimineren of in ieder geval te reduceren. Een manier om efficiënter en effectiever te werken is door flexibiliteit binnen de bestaande capaciteit te creëren, om zo onzekerheid en variabiliteit in de vraag naar patiëntenzorg te reduceren. Dit hoofdstuk introduceert flexibiliteitstrategieën voor het plannen van personeel in ziekenhuizen. Doel is om zo goed mogelijk in te spelen op de vraag met zo min mogelijk personeel. Aangezien de inzet van personeel veelal de grootste component van zorgverlening in een ziekenhuis is, richten we onze flexibiliteitstrategieën met praktische voorbeelden op de capaciteitsplanning van personeel.
