Aanhoudende afwijzing door anderen veroorzaakt stress. Dit hoofdstuk gaat dieper in op het begrip stress. Eenzame jeugdigen zien geen kans om met de stress van afwijzing om te gaan. De draagkracht is onvoldoende om het hoofd te bieden aan de draaglast. Hun co**strategieën zijn ineffectief en er niet op gericht het probleem aan te pakken. Ze proberen het probleem te ontlopen of ze ontkennen dat er een probleem is.
