Abstract
De röntgenstralenenergie die gebruikt wordt in de tandheelkunde is als laag te beschouwen en zal menig algemeen radioloog doen grijnzen als deze ter sprake komt in de context van radioprotectie. Wat de algemeen radioloog echter vergeet, is dat het cumulatief effect van lage stralingsdoses over een heel leven verspreid uiteindelijk wellicht een grotere rol speelt dan een eenmalige hoge diagnostische dosis. In tabel 2.1 worden enkele voorbeelden gegeven van stralingsdoses voor de patiënt. De stralingsdosis wordt uitgedrukt in de eenheid Sievert (Sv). Aangezien de doses in de tandheelkunde zeer laag zijn, wordt over doses in micro-Sievert gesproken.
