Abstract

Determine the number of particle-wall collisions per unit area for an ideal quantum gas composed of N independent particles inside a cubic container of volume V. Treat the general case with a single particle energy ε=ε(p), i.e. only dependent on the absolute value of the momentum. Also, determine the pressure and discuss the corresponding classical limit. Finally, discuss the case of a photon gas with a single particle energy

$$\varepsilon = cp c = const.$$

and a chemical potential μ=0.
