Abstract
In nuclear medicine, radiolabeled pharmaceuticals are used to study organ and tissue function. There is a large range of nuclear medicine procedures reflecting vital functions, and these techniques are, in principle, well suited for examination of critically ill patients. There are, however, also constraints to the use of nuclear medicine procedures in intensive care. These are due mainly to the use of bulky equipment, the rather long time often required for examinations and the limited repeatability of the tests.
