Direct intra-foraminal injection of corticosteroids in the treatment of cervico-brachial pain

  • Chapter
Interventional Radiology in Bone and Joint

Abstract

Most cases of cervico-brachial pain (CBP) are relieved by medical treatment. However, in a few cases, pain is resistant to all medical treatments and surgery may be required. In such cases, some authors propose local intrathecal injection of corticosteroids as the last step of conservative treatment prior to surgery [2, 5]. Following the same concept, we have been performing foraminal injection of corticosteroids (FIC) in selected patients with CBP since 1977.
