Zusammenfassung
Moderne Methoden der Mikroelektrodentechnik haben in den letzten Jahrzehnten ein neues Forschungsgebiet erschlossen, das durch Ableitungen von einzelnen Nervenzellen die Physiologie des Sehsystems sehr gefördert hat. Ähnlich wie die Mikroskopie die anatomische Kenntnis der Feinstrukturen des Gehirns erweitert, bringt die Mikrophysiologie Einblicke in die Funktionswelt der Neurone, der kleinsten Einheiten des Nervensystems, die von der Retina bis zum Gehirn Vermittler der Sehvorgänge sind. Diese mikrophysiologischen Untersuchungen bei Tieren brachten zahlreiche Korrelationen mit den Ergebnissen der subjektiven Sinnesphysiologie beim Menschen (63 bis 65). Solche psychophysiologischen Verbindungen mit objektiven Befunden waren mit elektrophysiologischen Makromethoden, dem Elektroretinogramm (ERG) und dem Elektrencephalogramm (EEG) noch nicht möglich gewesen.
