L’ étendue de l’ emploi des méthodes de tests mentaux en psychiatrie est à l’ heure actuelle considérable, mais il est frappant de considérer l’ampleur des différences qui existent en ce domaine, suivant les écoles ou les pays, à la fois dans l’ intérêt qui leur est porté, dans les principes méthodologiques sur lesquels les instruments sont basés, et dans les techniques elles mêmes employées. Pour comprendre l’ état actuel de la question, il n’ est pas inutile d’ envisager brièvement dans une perspective historique les circonstances d’ apparition des diverses méthodes.
