Zusammenfassung

Der Echinococcus alveolaris (multilocularis) wächst beim Menschen wie ein maligner Tumor expansiv, infiltrativ destruierend und metastasierend. Die einzige Heilungsmöglichkeit besteht in einer kompletten Resektion. Weil die Echinokokkose schleichend beginnt und die Symptome sehr uncharakteristisch sind, wird die Diagnose oft erst zu einem Zeitpunkt gestellt, wenn die Echinokokkose nicht mehr kurativ resezierbar ist. Tierexperimentelle Untersuchungen [1, 3] und zahlreiche klinische Beobachtungen [7], z. T. in Form prospektiver Studien [5, 6] haben gezeigt, daß durch Mebendazol, ein Benzimidazolderivat, das weitere Wachstum der alveolären Echinokokkose verhindert, die Metacestoden aber nicht abgetötet werden können.
