Abstract
This paper introduces a microprocessor based monitoring system for ball bearing malfunctions. Both time series analysis and amplitude domain analysis are used to extract the feature of the signal and assess the working condition of the machine under monitoring A simple index NRSS (Normalized Residual Sum of Squares) deduced from time series analysis and some nondimensional indeces in amplitude domain are used for detecting the abnormal condition. The system has been tested on a ball bearing endurance test machine for detecting the occurrence of the defects in tested bearings. The results show that the system is sensitive to the incipient failures of ball bearing and capable to give the early warning. This technique ensures the accuracy of the life span teat of the ball bearings. This system can also diaognose the type of the defects by using the time series analysis approach.
