Abstract
The laser transition at 2.8 μm in Erbium-doped laser crystals is very important for medical applications due to the strong absorption of this radiation by the water contained in any biological tissue. This allows a precise cutting without thermal damage of the surrounding tissue, that is necessary for minimal invasive surgery [1].
