Abstract
The effects of the disaccharidase inhibitor acarbose on total triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), very low density lipoproteins (VLDL), low-density lipoproteins (LDL), and high-density lipoproteins (HDL) were investigated in eight healthy male subjects who were fed a fiber-free formula diet of constant composition (energy percentages, carbohydrate : fat : protein = 45:40:15; P/S, 1.0; cholesterol, 207 mg/ 1000 kcal) for 5 weeks. In a randomized, placebo-controlled, crossover study acarbose (0.9 mg/1.0 g starch) was mixed with the diet for 2 weeks.
