Abstract
Is it a common feature of economists to think and to argue in economic terms — who wonders. Their view of life is governed by the pre-eminence of economic efficiency; their view of men is based upon the utility-maximizing individual who turns a completely blind eye on the merits of justice, fairness, solidarity and other social values. Starting from there, the economist develops his policy recommendations and is completely dazzled by the low acceptance of his proposals in the policy arena. The shelves of libraries and the bookcases of ministries are packed with analyses and recommendations which contain sound economic reasoning, but are completely ignored in the design of actual economic policy.
