Zusammenfassung
Die Jugendwerke Kellers wurden lange als bloßes »Präludieren « ohne »persönliche Züge« (SW 20, 172 f.) oder »naiv-unbehilfliche« Puerilia (Ermatinger 1950, 97) qualifiziert und fielen aus fast allen Keller-Ausgaben und -Deutungen heraus. Erst mit DKV 7 (1996) und vollständig dann durch die HKKA (1996–2013) wurde die Voraussetzung geschaffen, sie in ihrer Schlüsselfunktion wahrnehmen zu können. Die drei Paradigmen, die Kellers kleine Prosa lebenslang bestimmen, treten im Frühjahr 1836 gleichzeitig auf: spannende oder witzig pointierte Erzählungen, dramatisierte Natursymbolik und lehrhafte Gedankenprosa.
