Abstract
This chapter is dedicated to exploring judges’ recruitment and judicial career, and follows up on their social origins and professional trajectory. It presents data on the entry paths into the federal judiciary, the career trajectories within it, and the perceptions regarding the functioning of the judicial career and the factors that matter for promotion. As a starting point, it examines the different models of judicial governance that have operated or are currently operating in judicial systems, including the patronage model, the recognition model, and the professional career service model. To different extents, these models continue to be part of the recruitment logic within the Mexican judiciary.
