Construction and Demolition Debris

Abstract

CDD generation estimates have not historically received the same attention as other waste streams, such as MSW or hazardous waste. The mass of CDD materials resulting from an activity depends heavily on the type of project (construction versus demolition), the structure in question (building versus a road), and the functionality of the structure (residential home versus commercial building). This chapter provides fundamentals related to CDD generation, including a detailed look at factors affecting CDD generation and methods frequently used to estimate CDD mass (or in some cases volume), both at the project level and from a broader regional perspective.
