The top 10% of richest Americans own 70% of the country’s assets, to be precise (cf. Piketty: 21st Century Capital). However on a global level, it is estimated that 10% of adults own 85% of wealth (cf. the 2013 report from Credit Suisse: https://web.archive.org/web/20150214155424/https://publications.credit-suisse.com/tasks/render/file/). Wealth (assets) is not to be confused with income.
