Abstract

The rapidly expanding technology of liquid crystal devices requires increasingly sophisticated liquid crystalline materials tailored to the specific requirements of a research and development effort. Many excellent materials are commercially available, but in order to obtain other potentially useful ones, electronics firms must frequently rely upon what internal synthetic capabilities they may muster. To this end, we present the following practical information concerning the syntheses of several trans-4-alkylcyclohexane carboxylic acids and their esters.
