Abstract
First things first, what is this elusive thing called accessibility? According to the W3C, web accessibility is a set of techniques and practices in web design and development to ensure that a website is effectively accessible by all people, regardless of their physical or cognitive abilities (Henry and McGee, 2020). This way everyone can have access to information equally. In this chapter we’ll first define web accessibility and then look at the specific guidelines that help govern this requirement.

You might have come across this term before, but for the sake of information and as its name implies, assistive technology can be considered anything that helps users who might be experiencing a disability by improving their capabilities. This technology can include anything from a screen reader, which is basically a software that reads text aloud, to a screen magnifier or a voice-over software that we can give commands to by using our voice.

When these lines were written, WCAG 2.1 included 78 success criteria in total. WCAG 2.2 is set to have an additional 9 success criteria; nonetheless, these guidelines are pretty similar.
