Abstract

Heavy quarks (i.e., charm c and beauty b) turn out to be very useful probes to study hadron dynamics. There are good reasons to hope that the QCD perturbative theory can be applied to understand the production of heavy quarks in hadronic collisions, assuming the gluon-gluon fusion process

$$gg \to Q\bar Q$$

or the quark-quark fusion process

$$q\bar q \to Q\bar Q$$
